Victory is ours!

Congratulations to the residents of the Village of Glen Carbon. You made your opinions known and your voices heard. And as a result, WalMart has WITHDRAWN their proposal to turn our store into a SuperCenter.

The Village of Glen Carbon has received a letter from the WalMart Corporation stating their intention to withdraw the proposed SuperCenter plan. The Village government will now make the accompanying parking lot and sign variances null and void. Once that is official, the GlenEd Citizens will withdraw the lawsuit against the Village with pleasure.

The Mayor insists, of course, that our community action and petition of 1000+ signatures and lawsuit had NOTHING to do with the decision. We obviously disagree. While WalMart has been taking SuperCenters off the table across the nation, one can hardly believe that the intense controversy surrounding our particular store had "nothing" to do with the decision.

What is a shame is that our community action had nothing to do with the Village Board decision. I hope we all remember that in early 2009 when we elect a new Mayor and replace several members of the Village Board.

HIP-HIP-HORRAH! We did not need another WalMart SuperCenter in this area. We have 4 that are within 10-30 minutes drive time. I predict that if it had gone through, in 5-10 years we would have had as many empty commercial sites as Granite City & E St Louis.

Don't pat yourself on the back. This decision appears to be based purely on economics and not on the annoyances of your petty lawsuit.

CONGRATULATIONS!! It is amazing what citizens can do when they work together. Wal-Mart and the Village can say all they want that it had nothing to do with Glen Carbon citizens, but we know better! Keep up the GREAT work!!!

Yeah!!! Good riddens to the idea of a super Walmart in our backyard!! I couldn't be happier. My heart is relieved to know that my children will be safer.

By the way, I went to the movies tonight at Cottonwood to see Sea Horse. An older lady said that someone is tearing down the building of the Cottonwood mall starting on Monday. I immediately came home to check the updates of this blog. I assume that she has her information mixed up (?). Any idea on what she is confused, if she is confused about?

P.S. I will see you at the polls to elect a new mayor and board members. I do not like their attitudes, nor their arrogant behavior!
