we need more stores to ofset the cost of property tax....the devils keep adding to our taxes on property for the idots our school system is producing."your kids" the ones you teach nothing to at home. i would vote for anything to punish you idiots that have kids and teach them nothing.
There is still no info here. How can I make an informed decision without facts. You say we will have increased traffic. WHERE IS THE PROOF? You say we will have an increase in crime. WHERE ARE THE FACTS TO SUPPORT THIS STATEMENT? You claim "we have the facts on our side". How about sharing those facts with us? You make many claims, but you list nothing to support them. If you are going send me an unsolicited flier to get me on you side, prehaps the flier should contain some real evidence instead of just words to try to stir people up.
Regarding the flier your group left in my mailbox, I understand it is illegal and a federal offense to place anything in a person's mailbox, outside of mail sent via the USPS. Something to keep in mind...
At any rate, if the people of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon don't want a Wal-Mart Supercenter, they won't shop there...then the store will lose money and close. That's how our economy is supposed to work.
The above comment is not accurate. The impact of a supercenter will be felt most by local citizens even if it is only patronized by people from out of town. The supercenter and all of the problems that come with it would still be felt if no glen/ed citizens shopped there because people from neighboring towns will commute here.
It is not a federal offense to affix informational materials to the exterior of a mailbox. What is a federal offense is to put materials into the mailbox (since this is essentially evading paying a tax, the stamp tax).
For the record, the flier was INSIDE of my mailbox.
@Adam Scimone: Please give documented facts backing up your statements. What "problems" will come with the Supercenter? Please remember provide details and proof.
My concerns:
1.Influx of people from various surrounding people into our neighborhoods attracted by Super Walmart (rough people).
2. Huge bottle neck of traffic near neighborhood.
Questions I have:
1. Why is Walmart allowed to expand in front of all these neighborhoods. Why can't they move to a location that is more remote and away from residential neighborhoods?
2. If Walmart is getting a tax break, why would it when Glen Carbon can't even afford a full time fire department and representatives?
3. Why do the representatives act as if they don't care about my phone calls?
4. Why are all Glen Carbon's decisions made without the concern for the community?
a. allow zoning for Lowe's next to Home Depot (taking out the rollerskating rink that our children enjoyed).
b.This Walmart isn't best for the citizens.
