Update from GlenEd Citizens for Fair Growth.

You may have noticed it has been quite a while since we've updated everyone on the process. The reason for this delay is simple: WalMart and THF Realty have repeatedly REMOVED their petition from the Village Board Meeting agenda. Why? Perhaps they realize how weak their position has become. Perhaps they realize the fact that they don't have an actual hardship to claim (required for a variance in Glen Carbon) might actually keep them from taking advantage of our village.

Apparently WalMart and THF feel ready to take on our Village Board and the citizens of this town. We say, it's about time. The Village Attorney has assured us that on TUESDAY JUNE 12 AT 7:00 pm, this issue WILL be addressed. We need you to come as well and make your voice heard. The more citizens who show their strong concern for this issue, the more our Board will listen!

I would like to know how to get you all to quit leaving flyers on my mailbox and to quit bothering me at home. I don't want anyone coming to my door, nothing. Thank you

Please stop leaving flyers on my mailbox. I live at 355 Glen Carbob Rd and do not wish to have flyers placed on my mail box or on my property. According to my information recieved from a former Postmaster, it is illegal to put flyers on my mailbox.

I previously sent a message requesting your organization to stop leaving flyers on mu mail box. My address is 255 Glen Carbon Rd. I inadvertently typed my address as Glen Carbob Rd.

GlenEd Citizens for Fair Growth apologizes for any inconvenience it has caused. We will create a "do not deliver" list for the above three addresses.

Please note that leaving flyers IN mailboxes is illegal, the outside of a mailbox can be used for delivery by any non-postal entity (ie local advertising, homeowner's associations, and informational flyers.) We would never knowingly break any law and are attempting to act in the best interests of our fellow residents.

Sincerely,

GlenEd Citizens for Fair Growth

Wow, what attitudes those above posts show! This blog spot is to help keep us citizens informed, and I soo appreciate all the hard work that it takes to keep us up to date about this. Unfortunately, those posts above show a very unthankful, unkind, and arrogant attitude. Please know that the rest of us who are here are not of the same mind nor heart. We really appreciate the time and energy, not to forget sacrifices, that are made in order to protect our families from this Super Walmart, in which those key people who put out flyers and update this blogspot have given. Thank you for this!!

Again, let's hope it doesn't pass so that Walmart will pull out of our town. Then cottenwood mall will be completly empty. What a lovely place it will be then. I thik all of you need to think of what will happen if you succeed and walmart leaves. Yes, they will probably leave. I can't say I really want the walmart, but if I have to pick the lesser of two evils (walmart expanding or leaving) I would rather have them come.

There seems to be alot of buzz about Walmart being in a TIF area. Am I mistaken or would any big business in that area be part of the TIF if it were to take over the premises where walmart is. If it applies to any business then why all the fuss about it. Would you be opposed to a Whole Foods Market going there or are you just anti walmart?

It's really funny that when I lived out of state a Wal Mart tried to expand to a Supercenter and the exact same arguments were used there. This also happened in the small town I grew up in and guess what. They used the exact same arguments as well. Is there some sort of checklist of ways communities can oppose wal mart? It sounds like the same broken record to me.

It's good to hear that true fairness and engineering facts were recognized by the Village Board. Although I applaud the time and effort expended by the Glen-Ed group, I also feel that the Village staff and the development team did a great job in putting together a site plan that will improve the aesthetics and the safety of Cottonwood Plaza. In the end, the expansion approval was the correct action by the Board.
